IE 7 to be pushed as a security patch

Microsoft will push Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) for Windows XP as a high priority security patch through Automatic Updates later this year.

The company announced last week that the security enhancements in the new browser version warranted the move.

"Internet Explorer 7 contains significant security enhancements that qualify it for delivery over Automatic Updates, and Microsoft recommends that all genuine Windows customers install it," a company spokesperson said in a statement last week. Unlike many Automatic Updates, the company will give users the choice not to install IE 7. It is also making available a free tool for enterprises to use that can block users from seeing the IE 7 options and preventing Automatic Updates from installing the browser.

In addition to this, MSN is losing customers to Mozilla products, like Firefox and Opera browsers. As a result though both of these browsers provide greate security, it has recently been announced that there have been increased security challenges due to increased use of Mozilla products.
Go figure....

That`s the irony of it all I guess.

Any thoughts at all on the new IE7? Computers are now coming off the production line with it already installed, though it`s still in the Beta phase of course. What do you think of it`s new features, security etc?

I have not downloaded IE7 yet so I can't comment on that. However, the idea that computers are coming out of production with the whole MS operating system including browser is a bit much, when there are many choice alternatives to MS now available. I used to appreciate the convenience of having all the features ready to go with a new computer. Now I more appreciate choices.
