Interesting statistics from their site:-

An estimated 250 new computer viruses are unleashed each month.
More than 54,000 viruses are in existence today.
Without a firewall, a PC is operating an “open door” to the Internet.
Identity Theft is the #1 growing crime in America.
Security software protection is only as good as the latest updateI`m tempted to go with this one when my Norton subscription expires (if the free for one year offer is still going then). thi#

I would not doubt those statics. Trendmicro updates almost daily on the pccillin program.

interestingly enough. I've been using a free one (Avast) which is fairly good, plus ZoneAlarm. If I do start earning enough from HYIPs, I might consider investing in a new computer, and load it up with Linux and do all the 'monetary related' transactions on it, rather than risk using Windows.....

Until then......

I picked up a copy of Knoppix, which SHOULD run, from what I understand, completely from the CD and memory, using NO drives. Something to play with, that would seem perfect for something like this.

Have yet to play with it, but looks good. Basically, a copy of Linux that runs from a CD only, from what I understand.

If it will support a browser, which I believe it does (LOTS of learning for me)
would seem perfect.

Also, should be extremely fast, even on an older PC, I believe.

I'm also planning on playing with Freebsd. If I can get a browser, email software, a web editor, and Quicken to run on it, I think I'll have about all I NEED...

Just musing,
Jeff
